President Ward sends followup email after the “residencies reimagined” announcement

On June 18, 2022, President Ward sent a followup email titled “A Message from the Office of the President” with additional information. Three days before, President Ward had informed faculty, staff, students, and alumnx that future residencies were moving to Colorado Springs. These constituents had no prior knowledge any campus changes were under consideration.

Excerpts of President Ward’s email are below.

President Ward said the move was motivated by the following:

“The difficult decision to move our residencies to Colorado College was motivated by two factors: the importance of adding interdisciplinary enrichment to our offerings as we move into the future and the desire to build a financially sustainable model so VCFA can endure for decades to come. Successfully doing this will ensure we can invest our financial resources in our people and programs, continuing to support and enrich artists who challenge and change how we walk through the world together.”

In the email, President Ward also stated:

“VCFA is not on the verge of a collapse.”

and

“Faculty are not being laid off.”

and

“Library services and staff will remain in place for all students and alumnx.”

She referred students to look at the FAQ page.

Finally, she closed the email with the following:

“VCFA has an exciting future ahead and I’m confident that together, we will build a meaningful and bright future for our community.”
